The Bana ba Bobirwa (BbB) environmental programme recently conducted a successful training workshop for the BbB Eco-Club guardian. Supported by the Tuli Conservation Trust, the BbB programme was launched in 2024 with the mission of nurturing motivated young environmentalists who will help sustain and protect Botswana's natural heritage for generations to come. This initiative is being implemented within the six primary schools of the Molema and Masego communities.
The workshop took place at the Tuli Safari Lodge Mashatu from 20 February to 22 February, with the following primary objectives:-
- Equip teachers with the knowledge and confidence to effectively deliver the Eco-Warrior curriculum.
- Provide structured educational materials and practical tools to ensure consistency across all six participating schools.
- Strengthen conservation knowledge among educators, particularly within the context of the Northern Tuli Game Reserve ecosystem.
- Foster collaboration, shared learning, and motivation among BbB's Eco-Guardians.
- Ensure the long-term sustainability and growth of the Eco-Warrior Clubs.
The Eco-Guardians play a crucial role in maintaining the Eco-Warrior Clubs, which are voluntary extra-curricular programs operating across six primary schools in the Bobirwa District. This programme encourages children to actively participate in hands-on conservation activities. The programme also aims to develop leadership, teamwork, and critical thinking skills while fostering a deeper understanding of the importance of tourism and conservation within the Northern Tuli region.
The training was attended by 18 dedicated teachers from the six supported schools and was led by Charlotte Gerrish, who is also the curriculum developer for Bana ba Bobirwa. Teachers were provided with the tools, practical strategies, and confidence needed to effectively implement the curriculum.
Bana ba Bobirwa extends heartfelt thanks to the Tuli Conservation Trust, Mashatu Game Reserve, the generous donors, directors, advisors, volunteers, and supporters for their continued commitment to this important initiative.
