A pilot project was launched in late January to utilize ladies from the local villages to assist with clearing of grass under and along the backline fence. The extraordinary growth of grass which has been a blessing this year due to the excellent rainfall received in Notugre causes the bottom electrified strands on the fence to short when coming into contact with the grass, thus reducing the current in the fence making it less effective against breaching challenges from wildlife.
Ten local ladies were earmarked by the Village Development Committee and Councillor and asked to assist, which consisted of 10 days paid employment. This is to ensure the safeguarding of the animals in the reserve and also preventing HWC due to wildlife crossing into community areas.
We would like to thank local community members and leadership for their ongoing support and assistance.
