The 2025 Independence Tournament was an exciting event, being the first year that a netball tournament has been included alongside the annual soccer tournament, thereby making the event more inclusive. Makanyane Football Club from Motlhabaneng won the soccer competition and Motloutse Netball Club took home the top prize in netball. Tuli Conservation Trust sponsored the tournament with a donation of circa P40,000.
In the soccer final, Makanyane FC played against Dibatana Football Club from Dopota and Jwala Game Reserves. The match ended in a 1-1 draw and it went to penalties. Makanyane FC won the penalty shootout 19-18. The tournament ended up with seven teams participating after one team failed to join. The teams were Mathathane 11, Molema Under 23, Kwenantle FC., Dikwena FC., and Lewenza Wanderes FC, in addition to the winning Makanyane and Dibatana.
Makanyane FC received P5,000 for winning, while Dibatana earned P4,000 as runners-up. The second runner-up got P3,500, and fourth-place team won P3,000. The other teams received P2,500 each for taking part. The amount allocated for the non-playing team was split equally between all playing teams.
The netball tournament featured four teams. Motloutse Netball Club won first place, Old Horses came in second, Kwenantle finished third, and Black Vultures placed fourth. This segment received P10,000 in sponsorship. The champions received P4,000 while the runners-up took home P3,000. The bottom two teams received P1,500 each.
The 2025 Independence Tournament celebrated sports and helped build community among the teams. In addition to the festivities, the event served as a valuable opportunity for local micro-enterprises. With food stalls lining the venue, local vendors seized the chance to sell a variety of snacks and refreshments, generating much-needed income for their households.
Kgosi Bethuel Machete of Motlhabaneng village expressed his gratitude for the turnout, highlighting how such events strengthen social bonds and boost the local economy.
